Based on a report from the website, Internet World Stats.com, Jamaica has seen a growth of 2,466.7% in internet users since the year 2000, which is now at 1,540,000 Jamaicans and is growing. That is a local penetration of 55% and represents a usage of 16.7% of total Caribbean internet users with the Dominican Republic being the largest user of internet in the Caribbean at 32.6%. Barbados has the highest percentage penetration at 95%, then Bermuda at 74%, Antigua at 72% and St. Lucia at 66%.
There is growth all around us, regardless of the ‘recession’ (which is a word I hardly ever use) We should take advantage of this information and recognize the possibilities in business ventures. With more locals online this offers a much wider audience for advertisers and also a brand new audience for service providers who were not previously online.
Its time for Jamaicans to leverage the benefits of the internet through business. But that’s for another post ![]()
Oh, on another note: The world population is now at 6.77 Billion people, so we can stop saying 6.5 ![]()
