WordPress – The best Content Management System (CMS) for my blog

I adore the WordPress Content Management System (CMS) because it works Wordpress Logoand is very easy to use and learn. About 2 months ago, I decided to start this blog because I believe that I can contribute a great deal to the Jamaican and Caribbean web design and technology market and provide assistance for those who seek the knowledge of establishing a successful presence online. I’m not the best of the best yet, but I’m holding my own.

I began reading lots of articles and reviews about the different CMS’s – Drupal, Joomla and WordPress were the main ones. I actually read an entire e-book on Joomla because it seemed like the obvious choice at the time. It was an exciting week and a half journey that had me doing exercises and trying new templates. But at the end of all of that, I just was not feeling Joomla. I don’t know if my head is just ‘tough’, but I just was not feeling it. I didn’t want to use templates designed by anyone else and just did not want to take the time to learn the new doctype thing for Joomla template creation. So, I left Joomla for a woman that could please me better, WordPress. Within a couple of days, we hit it off just like that. I downloaded the robust Carrington theme, which is the first theme framework I fell in love with, did some basic editing of the theme’s css and php files and was satisfied with the results.

Below are some of benefits that I personally enjoy:

  1. Lots of free widgets available from wordpress.org
  2. Support is easily available
  3. Straightforward system
  4. Easy to edit and customize
  5. Excellent for blogging – Every tool that is necessary for a blog to function at maximum potential
  6. I didn’t have to read a book to get it working for me.
  7. Great for Search Engine Optimization – Google loves wordpress

Although, there are some persons who will disagree and say, Joomla is better, or drupal is better. It all boils down to what you need to achieve and personal preference. I just wanted a blog for Creative Engine Jamaica (Which is my web development company) to share ideas and offer assistance to the web design community. WordPress is just perfect for that. Maybe if I wanted a more complex system with e-commerce, inventory management, community management I think Joomla may be better. Drupal is more for hardcore developers and offers a much more robust and efficient coding framework, however its not for the average blogger.

So that concludes my reason for choosing WordPress. I’m not throwing Joomla out the window though. I think I will spend some more time to get to know her better.

First off I just want to say I love your blog design and the feel of it. Your blog really flows together nicely.

I definitely think CMS is the future as you stated. The reason why I feel this way is because people who don’t necessarily know or understand HTML and CSS are able to create very professional looking sites.

I have tried pretty much all of the CMS editors that are available and the ones that stand out to me are WordPress (of course) Drupal and Joomla.

I can’t decide on the battle versus Drupal and Joomla…. I will say that there is a definite learning curve for both CMS editors. From my personal experience I learned how to use Drupal a lot faster than I did Joomla.

    Great post!

Thanks for reading Jay and I’m glad you like the site design.

Honestly, I have not given drupal a serious trial but based on user reviews I have read, it seems to be more difficult to learn than wordpress and does not have as much theme variety and community support. So I have decided to stick to wordpress.

I will be giving drupal a test run in the near future and hopefully i will be able to write a review on it.

    HI Robyn,

Nice blog. Thanks for visiting mine too. I’m honoured to hook up with a brother blogger of Jamaican-Carribean descent.

I love wordpress and i try to say that objectively.

Which Joomla book did you read?

  3. I have to agree with you. We began using WorpPress back in Novemeber 2011 and have found it easy to set up and manage, easy to customize and generally easy to learn. It has a nice clean, professional look and we are very happy with the response to our blog.
