Video Game Reviewer needed for GamingTarget.com

GamingTarget.com, an LA-based video game news and reviews site, is looking for additional writers to handle the onslaught of gaming news and reviews this season and into 2011. We’re searching for one or two individuals who have the right journalism chops–meaning, a talented journalist who knows how to write, edit and cut to the heart of the story, not simply re-post press releases. You can work remotely, but if you’re in one of the cities listed below, you may be able to attend various video game preview/review events.

There are 5 Responsibilities:

1. Be Fast: Write news in a timely fashion.

2. Be Smart: Cut to the heart of press releases (i.e. If a company says, “Hey, this game comes out in February now,” know that, to gamers, this means it’s delayed.)

3. Be Tactful: First, write about topics that attract readers. There’s no use writing about something people won’t read. Second, phrase the story in a way that makes them click on us instead of the competition. (i.e. Don’t begin good stories with an “According to…” attribution. Put that at the end of the sentence and lead with a headline that shouts!)

4. Be On Your Toes: Know how to proofread your own work before submitting it and be able to peer edit submissions from other writers.

5. Be Passionate: We’re looking for video game-loving, tech-savvy writers.

-Bonuses: Review copies of games, invites to the big conferences and travel to media events.

…And 5 Qualifications

1. Be familiar with GamingTarget.com.

2. Be willing to help the site reach a larger audience. We want a team player.

3. Show prior blogging or reviewing experience, especially about video games.

4. Be energized about promoting your own work via social networks.

5. Being witty in your writing is a plus.

-Bonus: Being close to LA, San Francisco, New York or Las Vegas, etc is a plus, but not required.

How To Apply

E-mail your background, show that you meet the 5 qualifications and include sample links by using the application form at http://www.bloggingpro.com/jobs/apply/video-game
